One of the oldest settlements in Mississippi, French Camp was inhabited by the Natchez, Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians before French fur trader Louis LeFleur arrived about 1812. LeFleur built an inn on the Natchez Trace, and because of his nationality, local travelers named the place French Camp. LeFleur married a Choctaw woman; their son, who renamed himself Greenwood Leflore, became a state senator as well as chief of the Choctaw tribe. Learn More...
